On this page are references to the Native Americans whose land had been expropriated by the government of the United States and 'opened up for settlement'.

 (1) There is an account of the Dakota Conflict from the settlers point of view, written some thirty years after the event, in the section of the book "The Sioux Massacre" which we have split into two parts - (Part 1 0859) ··· (Part 2 0873)

 (2) There is section by Thomas Hughes in the appendix of the book about the aftermath of the clash with the settlers. "An Additional Account of the Sioux War. The Release of the White Captives. The Arrest, Trial and Execution of the Indians. 0864

(3) There is a short section from the appendix with some brief explanations of Dakota-Lakota place names - "The Sioux and their Names of Places" 0877

(4) There is a page where we have put together other references from the book to the Native American peoples displaced by the settlers. From the section on Welsh soldiers, we have for example references to those who took part in the attacks on Native Americans.
